What Does It Cost to Get Married in Denmark?
The FRH application fee, our three service prices and possible costs outside the standard package, with extras confirmed in the written offer.
By Scandinavian Wedding · Reviewed
Short answer: the FRH application fee is currently DKK 2,100 for couples applying through that authority, not a universal charge for every Danish wedding. This guide focuses on international couples applying through the Danish Agency of Family Law (Familieretshuset/FRH). Nationalities and the basis of each partner's residence determine whether FRH or a municipality handles the application; living outside Denmark alone does not decide jurisdiction. Check the official international-marriages overview for the relevant municipality routes, including Danish/Nordic cases and qualifying residence in Denmark. Our prices and possible additional costs are below; which costs apply depends on your case and written offer.
The FRH application fee
Familieretshuset charges DKK 2,100 per application. It is reviewed annually, so check the current amount before you apply. If your Certificate of Marital Status expires before you marry, a new application and a new fee are needed.
Our services compared
| Service | Price | Government fee | Who does the work |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guided Service | €395 | Not included; you pay DKK 2,100 directly | You submit the application and book the ceremony, with our checklist and guidance |
| Full Service | €995 total, already including VAT and the current FRH fee | Included (current DKK 2,100); VAT also included, not added | We prepare and submit the application and coordinate an available ceremony |
| Complex Case Review | €149 | Not applicable | Individual review when a case does not fit the standard route |
Full Service at €995 is the total for the service, including VAT and the current government fee. There is no separate application charge. Prices are maintained on our services and prices page, which is the reference if anything here differs. Whether a Complex Review payment can be credited towards a later service depends on the written terms of your offer; we will state this in writing rather than assume it.
Possible costs outside the standard package
Only incur these costs when applicable or chosen. Inclusion and any separately quoted handling or add-ons are governed by your written offer; translations and apostilles are not needed by everyone.
- Travel and accommodation for you and any guests.
- Ceremony location fees. Town-hall ceremonies are often simple; a private location with a registrar can have its own municipal terms and fees. Copenhagen, for example, describes private registrar ceremonies separately from City Hall.
- Translations of documents that need one.
- Apostille or legalisation of foreign documents before applying, and of your Danish marriage certificate afterwards if the country where you use it requires it.
- Courier or shipping of original certificates.
- Photography, flowers, meals and anything else you add.
We do not publish an "average total budget" because travel and personal choices vary too much to make one meaningful.
Guided or Full Service: how to choose
Guided Service suits couples who are comfortable completing official forms in English, have straightforward documents and want to handle the submission and booking themselves. You save on the service price but you carry the responsibility for getting the application right.
Full Service suits couples who want the application prepared and submitted for them and an available ceremony coordinated after approval. Its total price already includes VAT and the current FRH application fee; applicable optional costs are confirmed in the written offer.
Complex Case Review is for situations that need individual assessment first, such as uncertain legal stay, several previous marriages or documents from several countries. We recommend it only when the standard route would not be responsible.
How to keep the cost down
- Check whether a document actually needs translation or an apostille before paying for one.
- Apply at the right time so the certificate does not expire and need a second fee.
- Ask for a written price for any extra before agreeing to it.
What cannot be guaranteed
A fee paid to us or to the authority does not guarantee approval or a particular date. The authority's fee can change; we show any change clearly before you buy.
Next step
Send your situation through the free case assessment enquiry and we will recommend a service with its written total before you pay.
General information, not legal advice. The Danish authorities and municipalities make all decisions.
Your next step
Guides explain the process in general. Tell us your situation and we will review what applies to you before you pay for anything.
